The Near East Elementary School and the Near East Kindergarden celebrated the April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children's Day with a magnificent ceremony with two separate ceremonies held at 09:00 in the morning and 16:00 in afternoon .
According to the press statement released by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, Aziz Sancar, the owner of the 2015 Nobel Prize for Chemistry, attended to the ceremony as the honorary guest of the ceremony held in the Near East Primary School garden with participation of Dr. Suat Günsel Girne University Founding Rector Cemre Günsel Haskasap, her husband Enver Haskasap, Head of Center of Excellence and Head of Genetics Cancer Diagnosis and Research Center. Prof. Dr. Nedime Serakıncı, Near East Primary School Principal Hasan Yukselen,students and their Families.
The ceremony began with the reading of National Anthem and one minute silence in memory of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the martyrs. The presenter of the ceremony was Eylem Bozkurt from 4E class and Suna Alsancak from 5H class.
"You, the Great Atatürk, rest in peace, we will never extinguish the Turkic Mace that you have given us. We will carry this torch forward all the time, we will have your trust forever"
Talking about meaning and importance of the day, Helin Öztüccar from 4G class said; "My dear friends, it was exactly 98 years ago, there was a festive mood everywhere. The blowing wind brought hopes, enlightenment, and sovereignity of Turkish people. On April 23, 1920, the sun was born in another form to the land, warming us in another way. On such a day, Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk left the keys of the Turkish Grand National Assembly to us, the children. He was Mustafa Kemal. In his words, the child meant love, the child meant joy. The fruits of a family were the angels who were tiny, loving angels who did not lie. You sleep in peace, my Great Leader, my Great Ancestor, we will never put out the torch of Turkish nation you have given us. We will carry this torch forward forever, we will take it as our possession forever. "
After Helin Öztüccar's speech, the choir of the students from Near East High School made the audience enjoy the moments of the ceremony.
While the Near Eastern Elementary school students presented the dance performances in turn, the poems read on April 23 colored the ceremony.
The show titled "Our Great Leader, we are on your way" and realized by all the students has led to emotional moments and was applauded by students and by Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar, the honorary guest of ceremony who won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry 2015.
Later on, the ceremony ended with the singing of anthems.
