Near East Primary School is participating in the European Union Code Week (CodeWeek EU), which is a grassroots initiative aimed at learning more about coding and computational thinking, creativity and problem solving as well as bringing coding and digital literacy to everyone in a fun and engaging way.

According to the press statement released by Near East University Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office, Near East College organized Code. Org Block based activities within the scope of EU Code Week, which is a grassroots initiative that organized annually to celebrate problem solving and collaboration through programming. Within the scope of the activities, Near East College will not only create cooling fan, milo space exploration tool with Lego WeDo 2.0 robotic training kit but also will lead in computer-free coding with Cody Roby for 6-7 age group.

Educational institutions and organizations of different levels from many countries have participated in the 6th edition of EU Code Week, which takes place from 6 to 21 October 2018. The Code Week Challenge 4 All provides opportunity for the participants to promote their activities and to gain the 'Code Week Certificate of Excellence'.
Since coding helps develop competences such as computational thinking, analytic thinking, problem solving, creativity and teamwork, Near East College have included 'Robotic Coding' as a core lesson to the curriculum of the 4th and 5th grade students as of the academic year of 2018-2019.

Highlighting the crucial role of coding in expanding the understanding of how technology works, Near East Primary School Principal Hasan Yükselen stated that they closely followed up the technological developments and integrated them into the education system. He underlined that they attached a special importance on developing students' skills and capabilities in order to explore new ideas and innovate. "To this end, we have enhanced our curriculum with coding course to encourage our students to develop competences such as creativity, problem-solving, computational and algorithmic thinking”.

Underlining that they aimed to gain the EU Code Week Certificate of Excellence at the EU Code Week Challenge 4 All event, to which they participated in for the first time, Near East Primary School Principal Hasan Yükselen stated that significant works had been realized on coding, which was a global movement that had reached millions of students in many countries across the world. "Learning coding and technology in an interactive educational setting, has empowered our students to develop creative programs and exhibit their software skills. Programming helped our students to bring creative ideas to life. We want to gain the EU Code Week Certificate of Excellence at this event which celebrates creativity, problem solving and collaboration through programming and other technological activities".
