Near East Junior College teachers Dr. Hasan Özdal and Specialist Çiğdem Alasya gave a seminar titled as “Possible Risk Factors in Technology Use Process and Prevention Methods” to students of lower and upper secondary education schools in Kyrenia region as part of education and awareness program prepared by the Counselling and Support Centre of Municipality of Kyrenia, Cyprus.
It was pointed out that the seminar series were given to students studying at schools anmed as Girne Anafartalar Lisesi, 19 Mayıs Türk Maarif Koleji and Oğuz Veli Ortaokulu; and year 6,7,8 and 9 students were informed on the matter, by Near East Junior College (NEJC) teacher who specialises in Computer and Educational Technologies Hasan Özdal, and by Head of NEJC Department of Psychological Counselling and Guidance Çigdem Alasya.

Speaking initially at the seminar, Çiğdem Alasya provided details regarding the psychological effects of the use of technology in our daily lives and how to cope with them. Furthermore, she stated that although technology facilitates our lives in many ways, unconscious and uncontrolled technology usage can cause many problems in terms of family and friend relations, the fulfilment of daily responsibilities, our socialization and communication processes.

Dr. Hasan Özdal made a speech in the second half of the seminar and provided information on the effects of the transition period from digital immigrants to digital natives. Moreover, he stated that technological developments had an effect especially on education and training processes; teacher-student and the board whereas nowadays, due to technological transformations, the opportunities of learning have increased and research and information acquisition process has become easier; and therefore the 21st century generation was rather lucky. Additionally, he shared information regarding the risk factors that can occur during the process of technology use and the methods of coping with them.
